Domestic abuse is a very serious matter
This can include physical, emotional , financial abuse as well as coercive control.
Both men and women can be victims and it is also very bad for children to witness any abuse by one of their parents towards the other as if affects all their sense of love and security.
It is key that you get specialist help if you are a victim of domestic abuse and that you consider carefully whether mediation is right for you or not.
Your safety is key.
Mediation and Domestic Abuse
Mediation can be a helpful place to discuss and resolve separation matters but sometimes it may not be suitable.
Your mediator will discuss with you on your own whether you feel safe taking part in mediation
Mediators would never pressurise you or your partner to come to Mediation. In your individual session we consider with you whether or not Mediation is right for you and if it is safe for you at this time with the decision always being yours..
Mediation can provide a safe place to discuss key issues such as the children and finances but if thee has been domestic abuse it would usually be a special type of mediation where you do not meet either in person or online but the mediator goes back and forward between you to exchange ideas and see if any agreement can be reached.
This is called SHUTTLE MEDIATION and is described in more detail in this section.
Key is to get advice, talk to us if you want to find out more about mediation and make decisions that are right for you and your children.
